Georges de La Tour (1593–1652) was a French Baroque painter renowned for his masterful use of light and shadow. Influenced by Caravaggio, he is best known for his candlelit nocturnal scenes, where quiet figures emerge from deep darkness in moments of introspection and spiritual intensity. Working primarily in Lorraine, de La Tour developed a distinctive style marked by simplicity, geometric composition, and a profound sense of stillness. Today, he is regarded as one of the most original and influential painters of 17th-century France.
